Ideating...
Prior to conceptualizing "To Be Loved is To Be...Changed", human-appearing characters were the primary means through which I told stories. With the project timeline constraints in mind, I understood my story needed to be communicated simply without forsaking quality. Thus, a star was born.
Sketching out boards as they come. This is where the story came to life.
Initial Storyboards
The initial storyboards set the visual and emotional tone for the story through 4 arcs: Meeting, Journey, Transformation, and Changed. I wanted color to be the central device to the journey progression, shifting from dark and cool-toned to bright and warm as the characters' arcs concluded.
The initial storyboards set the visual and emotional tone for the story through 4 arcs: Meeting, Journey, Transformation, and Changed. I used color to indicate progression, shifting from dark and cool-toned from the first two arcs to bright and warm as the characters' arcs concluded.
As a secondary element, the character's own shape language also shifted and merged as a physical representation of that change.
01. The Meeting
This first arc details the moment Circle and Triangle fatefully meets each other after Circle descends and falls into the depths. Their meeting marks a significant change in Circle's story as Triangle physically lifts Circle out of the pit of despair. This change is marked in color and action, as they are physically floating upwards from a dark to a light place.

02. The Journey
With its new friend Triangle, Circle discover new things through the journey they take together. This arc ends with an epiphany of sorts, cued by the change in color tone and pop of warmth.

03. The Transformation
This arc describes the change that happens when someone has influenced your journey’s trajectory. Here, Circle is undoubtedly changed by the circumstances in which it has met and journeyed with Triangle.
