A type specimen book made to accompany the story of Sun Wukong.
Ideating
The goal of the ideation stage was to determine the best direction to take the letterforms and the story of Wukong in. Should it take the form of his staff or would his tail be a better indicator? Should it consist of fills only or both fill and lines? These were the types of design choices I considered at this stage.
The Result
A fun and dynamic typeface that conveys the shape design of Sun Wukong: bold and prickly, sharp but curved.
Applications
Alongside the completed type set promotional motion graphics and a sculptural installation were created.
